Your maps

In short

  • Everything you've built lives on the home screen, with its length, format and quality at a glance.
  • A new video starts either from an empty map or from a GPS file.
  • Duplicate is the safe way to try a different cut of a video you're happy with.
On this page

The home screen at app.avomap.com is where every project starts and where you come back to. It greets you by name, shows how many video credits you have left, and lists the videos you've made.

The AvoMap home screen listing saved videos with their length, format and quality, next to a button to create a new one

Starting a new video

Create new video asks how you'd like to begin.

The How do you want to start dialog, offering Plan a route on an empty map or Import a GPS file

Plan a route drops you on an empty map. You search for places or click your way across it, and AvoMap works out the path between your stops — the Route page covers the rest.

Import a GPS file takes a track you already recorded. Pick a .gpx, .kml, .kmz, .fit or .tcx file, or drop it onto the card, and the recorded path becomes an editable route. If your file is in another format, like a shapefile or GeoJSON, the free file tools convert it first.

Either way the project is saved to your account from that moment, so a closed tab or a flat battery costs you nothing.

The list

Each row shows the title you gave the video, how long it runs, its format, and whether it's set to Full HD or 4K. Edit opens it in the editor. Show 5, 10, or 20 maps per page depending on how much you've built.

The title comes from the Settings tab inside the editor. Naming a map after the trip rather than leaving it untitled makes this list much easier to read six months later.

Duplicating

Duplicate copies a map completely — route, camera, overlays, symbols, styling. It's the sensible move before any large change: keep the version you like, experiment on the copy, and export whichever turns out better.

It's also the fastest way to make a second format of the same trip. Duplicate the landscape video, switch the copy to portrait, and rearrange the overlays to fit.

Deleting

Select one or more maps and delete them together. A confirmation asks first, because a deleted map can't be brought back. Videos you already rendered aren't affected: they stay in your Downloads until they expire.

The menu

The menu on the home screen holds everything that isn't a map:

  • Downloads — your rendered videos from the last 14 days
  • Account — your details, password, email preferences
  • Get help — this help center
  • Send Feedback — ideas and bug reports, which we do read
  • Log out

Credits live up here too, with the current balance and a button for more. If you have a lifetime deal, the badge and the date of your next batch of credits sit alongside it.

The free limit

Five maps are free to build and preview. Past that, the list stops creating, duplicating and deleting maps, and the preview stops playing, until you buy a credit pack. Nothing you've made is deleted or hidden, and all of it works again as soon as the pack lands.

The map list once five maps exist, with the create button locked and a note that new maps come with a credit pack

Tips

  • Duplicate before a big edit. It costs nothing and saves the version you liked.
  • Give every map a real title. "Norway, day 3" beats "Untitled map" when the list grows.
  • Keep the list short. Delete the test maps you made while learning; they're the ones filling the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find the videos I've already made?

On the home screen at app.avomap.com. Every map you've created is listed with its length, format and quality, and Edit opens it again exactly as you left it.

Can I copy a map instead of starting over?

Yes. Duplicate makes a full copy — route, camera, overlays and all — so you can try a different version without touching the original.

How do I start a new video?

Press Create new video and choose between planning a route on an empty map or importing a GPS file you already have, such as a GPX or FIT file.

Why can't I create a new map?

Five maps are free on a new account. After that the create button waits for a credit pack. Your existing maps stay open and editable.

Is my work saved if I close the tab?

Yes. The editor saves as you go, and the map list always shows the latest version.
