Exporting and downloads
In short
- The export button shows the format, the quality and what the render costs before you commit.
- Rendering runs on our servers — close the tab and we'll email you when it's done.
- Finished videos stay available for 14 days, and a failed or cancelled render always refunds its credits.
On this page
Everything you've built in the editor is a preview until you export it. Exporting hands your project to our servers, which render it and give you back an MP4 file.
The export button
The blue Export Video button sits at the top right of the editor. Next to it you can see the two settings that decide what you get — the video format and the quality — and underneath the button itself, what this render will cost.
If the price or the shape isn't what you expected, change it in the Settings tab first. Both are easier to fix now than after the render.
What the summary shows
Pressing export opens a summary before anything is charged. It lists every part of the price on its own line, adds them up, and shows what your balance will be afterwards.
A plain video in Full HD is one credit. Rendering in 4K, replacing or removing the AvoMap logo, and using more than ten different custom icons each add one more. The Credits page explains each of those in detail.
If you don't have enough credits, the summary says so and offers you a credit pack right there. Nothing is deducted until you press the render button.
While your files upload
If you added photos, videos, or custom icons that haven't finished syncing, AvoMap uploads them first and counts down the files as they go. Keep that window open until it's done — once the last file is up, your video joins the queue on its own.
Should the upload break halfway, usually a dropped connection, you'll be told which part failed and can try again. Nothing is charged for an export that never started.
In the queue
Your video waits for a free rendering slot and then starts on its own. A small panel shows the progress percentage, and you can collapse it to a single line if it's in your way. You don't have to sit and watch: close the tab, start another map, or shut the laptop. The render carries on without you.
What gets rendered
Exactly what the preview shows. The editor and the render servers draw the same map with the same fonts, camera and overlays, which is why it's worth playing the whole video through before you export.
When it's ready
You get a notification in the app and an email with a download link. The ready panel tells you how long the render took, how many days the file stays available, and gives you the download button.
Files are kept for 14 days after rendering. We send a reminder email before one expires, so a video doesn't quietly disappear while you're away.
Your downloads
Everything you've rendered recently lives in one list. Open the menu on your map list and choose Downloads, and you'll see your video files with a download button next to each one.
If the list is empty, nothing has been rendered in the last two weeks. Videos older than that are gone from our servers, so keep a copy somewhere of anything you care about.
Files and logs for this map
Each map keeps its own record of what you've rendered from it. Open Files & Logs from the editor's top bar and you'll see every render started from this map, with its status, when it began and when it finished, a download button for the ones that succeeded, and Cancel Rendering for one that's still going. It's the quickest way to find the file for the map you're looking at, where Downloads on the home screen spans everything.
If a render fails
Sometimes a render breaks on our side. When that happens the credits go straight back to your account and the panel tells you what happened. Cancelling a render yourself works the same way: no video, no charge.
A render that can't even start, because your map couldn't be saved, also costs nothing. Your work is still in the editor. Try again in a minute, and if it keeps happening, write to hello@avomap.com and we'll look at it.
Tips
- Watch it once, end to end. The preview is the render, so anything that bothers you on screen will be in the file.
- Pick the format before you place overlays. Moving a title from landscape into portrait means redoing the layout.
- Download the day you get the email. Fourteen days goes quickly, and the file only exists on our servers.
- Start in Full HD. It renders faster and looks great on a phone; save 4K for the videos that go on a big screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to keep the tab open while my video renders?
No. Rendering happens on our servers, so you can close the tab or carry on with another project. You get a notification in the app and an email with the download link when the video is ready.
How long does a render take?
It depends on the length of the video, the quality you picked, and how busy the queue is. Most videos are ready in a few minutes. The progress panel shows a percentage while it works.
How long can I download my finished video?
Fourteen days from the moment it finished rendering. You get an email reminder before a file expires, and the Downloads list shows everything that's still available.
What happens if a render fails?
Your credits come back automatically. The same goes for a render you cancel yourself — nothing is charged for a video you never got.
Where do I find videos I rendered last week?
Open the menu on your map list and choose Downloads. Everything rendered in the last 14 days is there with a download button.
